New Malibu City Council Sworn In at Monday Meeting
The meeting marked the end of the final terms for long-time council members Joan House and John Sibert.

MALIBU, CA -- The new Malibu City Council took office and two retiring council members ended their terms on Monday, December 12.
In a packed City Council chamber at City Hall, council members elected in the Nov. 8 General Municipal Election, first-time councilman Rick Mullen, incumbent Sklyar Peak, and returning councilman Jefferson “Zuma Jay” Wagner, were sworn in to start their four-year terms.
“It’s good to see so many Malibu residents here who care deeply about the community and are involved in steering our City’s future,” Mayor Lou La Monte said. “I look forward to working with the new Council and hearing their ideas.”

Mullen was sworn in by Mati Waiya, Executive Director of the Wishtoyo Chumash Foundation, who performed a native Chumash blessing. Wagner was sworn in by his daughter Ava Wagner. Peak was sworn in by his children Uma and Theo.
The meeting marked the end of the final terms for long-time council members Joan House and John Sibert. Both Sibert and House served on the City Council and various Commissioners for years and were instrumental in the efforts to incorporate Malibu.

Appointments to City Council Ad Hoc Committees are tentatively scheduled for the City Council meeting of January 11, 2017. At that time, the Council will also consider dissolution of any committee that has completed its tasks.
Also in January, the City Council members will have the opportunity to appoint new members or re-appoint sitting members of the City’s citizen Commissions, including Cultural Arts, Parks and Recreation, Planning, Public Safety, Public Works and others.
