Rock Slide On Decker Canyon Road, Light Malfunctions In Malibu

MALIBU, CA — Malibu saw a number of road obstructions and closures Thursday morning as a storm drenched Southern California.

All lanes of Pacific Coast (1) Highway were reopened around 10:17 a.m. after a rock slide closed a lane, according to the city of Malibu.

Around 3 p.m. Thursday, the Topanga Canyon (27) Boulevard was closed from PCH to Grand View Drive for a mud slide. The roadway was still closed by 6 p.m. Thursday.

A rock slide closed the State Route 23, Decker Road, from PCH to Decker School Road, Caltrans reported around 8:21 a.m. Thursday. Authorities recommended using Encinal Canyon Road as an alternate route.

Periodic closures on Malibu Canyon were expected throughout the day to clear mud, water and rocks, the city said Thursday morning. Drivers were encouraged to keep their headlights on, drive slowly and monitor road conditions.

"Motorists should be prepared for rocks, mud and water in the road, slow moving traffic, workers and work vehicles, and period closures to clear the road clear through Malibu Canyon during the rain," the city said.

Around 8 a.m., a traffic signal malfunction caused slowdowns at Malibu Canyon Road and Civic Center Way, according to the city of Malibu.

"Motorists should approach the intersection as an all-way stop until the signal is repaired," the city said. "Motorists should continue to use extreme caution while driving during rain storms, particularly in canyon roads, and watch for rocks and debris falling and in the roadway."
