Safety on Pacific Coast Highway

By Rabbi Levi Cunin

This past week I had an experience that once again demonstrated to me how change can happen when people commit to a common goal, and they agree to be change-agents.

Let me thank County Sheriff’s Department - - especially Lt. Jim Royal, a man I have come to respect and honor and and our esteemed Capt. Patrick S. Davoren,- who I just had the honor of meeting. This last Wednesday Capt. Davoren and Lt. Royal were amongst the representatives from various government agencies who gathered to discuss  possible solutions for the challenges we face on the Pacific Coast Highway. How can we reduce the fatalities in our midst?

This issue is one that concerns all of us, and, in listening to the in-depth presentation, it was clear to me that the solution is going to need some Solomonic wisdom. It is my hope that the community will unite to do what is necessary. Here is a good place to begin.

My gratitude runs deep for the efforts of the grass roots organization "A Safer Pacific Coast Highway" and everyone involved in trying to help bring an end to the unfortunate loss of life on our highways. May you experience good fortune in your life for your efforts for the community!

I am reminded of that which the sages of the Talmud are quoted saying, "He who saves one life, it is if he saved an entire universe."
Shabbat shalom!
