Sharks Baseball Wins CIF Playoff Opener

By Ari Jacobs

In front of a packed crowd at Sharks Field, the Malibu High School baseball team defeated visiting Bishop High School 10-6 to advance to the second round of the CIF State Playoffs.

Junior Noah Simon (10-1) tossed 4 strong innings only giving up one run to earn his 10th victory of the season.

The Sharks offensive spark came from the team's two senior captains Frank Thomas and Alvaro "Alvie" Alvarado. Thomas had two big hits, knocking in three RBIs and scoring two runs. Alvarado added two more hits, including a double, one RBI and a run scored.

When Simon left the game in the 4th inning, Malibu held a 8-1 lead. The Sharks got two more runs and held off the Bishop Broncos who did not give up.

The Sharks are now 24-4 on the year, but more importantly have extended their season and move on to the next round of the 2013 CIF State Championships.

Sophomore Austin George added a double and two walks, freshman Dylan Ross had a big RBI single and Chris Falk scored senior Riley McMillin with a sacrifice fly.

The Sharks will play at Calvary Chapel Christian School on Tuesday in Downey in the second round.

Malibu has never won a second round game in school history.

Good job boys and congratulations on your CIF Playoff win!
