MALIBU, CA — A stretch of Topanga Canyon Boulevard is expected to remain closed Monday with the possibility of more rain, Caltrans officials say.

The roadway along State Route 27 between Pacific Coast Highway and Grand View Drive, an active workzone, was expected to be closed until at least 12 p.m., Monday, officials said in a news release.

The highway remained closed past the expected closure time, Caltrans said in an update on Facebook story, noting crews would revaluate the closure later in the day.

The decision to close the roadway comes after the National Weather Service predicted up to 0.59 inches of rain for the area, worrying Caltrans crews that some hillsides may be unstable.

Crews working Sunday noticed that some debris had fallen from the hillsides overnight Saturday, officials said, adding that crews are still working to clean up the debris.

Caltrans said its crews are monitoring the highway and working to reopen it once it is safe to do so after the storms have passed and all hazards have been cleared.

The 3.7-mile long work zone is typically closed between midnight and 5 a.m. daily, as Caltrans “crews complete recovery work following the Palisades Fire and winter storm damage.”

Crews also continue to monitor the “recovery work zone on State Route 1/Pacific Coast Highway,” but there are currently no major impacts, Caltrans said.

Caltrans District 7 will update information about the highway closure on its social media pages.
