'Very Loved By All': Malibu Star Student

MALIBU, CA — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Thomas just recently won 5 coveted awards from the Scholastic Art & Writing contest for digital designs he created in his Malibu High AP class. He also received the PTSA Reflections top award for Art the last two years and received an Honorable Mention for his digital creations at the Congressional Art Awards last fall. He recently scored above 85% nationally in the Star math test and over 84% nationally in the STAR English/Language Arts. Thomas is on both Malibu High Swim Team & Malibu Seawolves Gold Team. He lifeguards at Malibu High and helps protect young swimmers in the pool. He also is an avid rock climber and volunteers at the school and community building items such as change rooms for the school performing arts green room, school art projects etc. He also loves the beach and participates in clean up days. As a minority among his peers he always reacts positively to racist comments he sometimes receives by embracing and showing his happiness about being different. Nothing ever gets him down and he always has tons of friends and is very loved by all.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

He has a big heart and loves giving his time helping young friends and neighbors train and work out in his gym daily.
