MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — South Bay police agencies are investigating multiple reports of armed robberies that took place over the weekend.

On June 22, Manhattan Beach police responded to a report of a robbery in the 200 block of 40th Street at about 3:45 a.m. A woman told officers that she and a friend were walking along the street when a vehicle drove up beside them

From inside the car, a group of men attempted to get the pair's attention as they followed them down the street but the victims ignored them, according to police. Eventually, the pair stopped in the 3900 block of The Strand and four people got out of the car.

One suspect, who was carrying a handgun according to police, demanded that the pair give them everything they had.

"The victim handed over cash and the four suspects reentered the vehicle and drove away. The victims were not injured during the incident," the Manhattan Beach Police Department said in a statement.

That same night, the Hawthorne Police Department received two additional robbery reports at 135th Street and Aviation Boulevard with similar circumstances and suspect descriptions.
