Beware Of Parking Payment Scam Targeting South Bay Area, Police Warn
People parking in Manhattan Beach should be wary of any payment option involving QR codes, according to city officials.
MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — A parking payment scam has been spreading across the South Bay beach communities, with Manhattan Beach officials warning residents and visitors to be cautious of QR codes popping up around the city's parking meters and pay stations.
The scam was first observed in neighboring Redondo Beach last year.
Now, Manhattan Beach officials say they're seeing the fraudulent codes designed to trick drivers into giving away their financial information across the city.

"If you encounter any QR codes offering parking payment, please be cautious — they are not authorized by the city," Manhattan Beach officials said in a statement Tuesday morning. "Scammers may attempt to trick you into making fraudulent payments."
Manhattan Beach officials urge anyone looking to pay for parking to use one of the official payment methods located on their parking meters and pay stations.
