Chevron El Segundo Refinery Update For Manhattan Beach Community

Process issues in some of the Chevron Refinery's operating units have resulted in "intermittent use of the facility's safety flares."

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — Manhattan Beach Patch reached out to the Chevron El Segundo Refinery to ask about the two Unplanned Flaring Events going on now. The first one began at 10:50 p.m. last night, followed by another event reported at 5:19 a.m. this morning.

Said Jeff Wilson, "The Chevron El Segundo Refinery has experienced process issues at some of its operating units resulting in the intermittent use of the facility’s safety flares that could be visible and audible to the public.

"We are working actively to remedy the issues as soon as possible and have made all appropriate agency notifications including the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD). We sincerely apologize to our neighbors for this unplanned event."
