MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — The Chevron Refinery in El Segundo has had an ongoing Unplanned Flare Event since last night [Wed., Jan. 27]. The event began at 10:50 p.m. last night, according to Chevron. An investigation into the cause is underway.
Manhattan Beach residents took to social media to lambast and complain about the noise coming from the plant last night and this morning. Within two blocks of the refinery in Manhattan Beach, the noise was louder than during past flaring events, keeping residents awake on and off throughout the night.
The Chevron El Segundo Refinery is listed for two Unplanned Flaring Events as of publication time: the one that began last night and another listed as beginning at 5:19 a.m. this morning [Thursday, Jan. 28]. No information as to when either Unplanned Flaring Event might end was included nor was any information on cause available yet.
