Manhattan Beach Middle School Could Go From 7 Periods A Day To 6
Manhattan Beach Unified School District Board will hear discussion of possibly changing middle school students from 7 periods to 6 per day.
MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — The Manhattan Beach Unified School District Board of Trustees will hear about changing Manhattan Beach Middle School from a 7-period day to 6 periods at its board meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 12. The meeting begins at 5 p.m. and is available to watch online.
The discussion will be the first and a specific schedule is not being recommended at this time, according to the MBUSD board agenda. According to the agenda, "Based on this initial discussion, the Board will seek additional information and input from staff, parents, and the community. After the meeting, the District will communicate about next steps in this process."
The agenda reports that there will be no vote on the item — that it is a discussion for all to learn more. "A committee of teachers and counselors has been meeting with [middle school] Principal Rose Ahrens to discuss this [6 periods instead of 7] possibility. Staff members have attended PLC conferences, visited other middle schools, analyzed dozens of schedules, and surveyed and met with MBMS staff members."
