Manhattan Beach Pier Lights To Turn Pink, Red For Valentine's Day
The Globe Lights on the Manhattan Beach Pier will display colors this weekend to celebrate Valentine's Day and honor Presidents Day.
MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — The new light system on the Manhattan Beach Pier will display alternating red and pink colors on Valentine's Day today [Sunday, Feb. 14] and a repeating red, white, and blue pattern on Presidents Day, Monday, Feb. 15, according to Carrie Tai, community development director for the City of Manhattan Beach.
The new LED lights on the pier were recently installed and the city has been at work configuring their color capabilities, noted Tai. The color changes will take effect at 12 midnight both days until approximately 6:30 a.m. and then turn off once full daylight occurs. They will come back on around 5:30 p.m. with the color change again at 12 midnight. The lights are on a daylight sensor rather than a timer so the exact dawn/dusk times will vary.
"Hopefully, this will be a successful test and a nice surprise!" Tai told Manhattan Beach Patch.

The new LED lights can be pre-programmed to the desired color for specific days. The color capability comes from the light bulbs, which are capable of displaying a full range of colors. Each light is controlled wirelessly, she said.
