Racial Inequality In Housing: Free Webinar, Manhattan Beach

"Bridging the South and the South Bay: A Lesson in Racial Inequality in South Bay Housing" is the topic of a South Bay Cares online webinar.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — "Bridging the South and the South Bay: A Lesson in Racial Inequality in South Bay Housing" is the subject of the next South Bay Cares Racial Equity Speaker Series. The free speaker series will feature Katrina Matthews, South Bay real estate agent, as she shares her family’s intimate journey of movement from the South to the South Bay and the impact of systemic racism on the creation of our neighborhoods.

Matthews, who was born and raised in the South Bay, started her career in real estate while attending El Camino College. As a senior at El Camino, she served as the president for the L.A. Law Club, while earning her American Bar Association Certified Paralegal Certification. As a college student at Cal State Dominguez Hills, Matthews earned some of the highest grades in her senior classes, often setting the bar in college courses, such as in System Analysis and Design. She graduated with honors in her major, Business.

When the real estate market fell in 2008-2009, Matthews was recruited to negotiate Short Sales on behalf of distressed homeowners by one of the biggest real estate companies in the country. From Palos Verdes Estates to Big Bear, Matthews was able to successfully negotiate with Bank of America, Chase, US Bank, Wells Fargo, and countless others, saving approximately 100 Southern California families from foreclosure.
