Residential Burglaries, Auto Thefts & More In Manhattan Beach

The number of residential burglaries has increased slightly along with vehicle burglaries. Auto thefts and thefts still in play, too.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — The latest crime report for the City of Manhattan Beach shows a slight increase in residential burglaries over the previous weekly report. For the week of February 8-14, there were five residential burglaries. The previous report for the week of February 1-7, showed two residential burglaries were reported and in one incident, the suspect was caught by Manhattan Beach Police. In the other, a garage was left open.

The latest report says residential burglars stole jewelry, household appliances and bikes, in three separate break-ins. The other two simply are listed as having had a garage open or a window or door smashed. The jewelry was stolen in the 500 block of 35th Street. The household appliances were taken in the 2500 block of Maple Avenue, and the bikes were stolen in the 200 block of 41st Street. The open garage was in the 460 block of 26th Place; the window/door smash occurred in the 1200 block of 9th Street.

Two vehicles were stolen: one in the 200 block of El Porto Street was locked; the other was unlocked near 19th Street and Faymont Avenue. Two vehicle burglaries took place: one in the 1600 block of Lynngrove Drive had an ID card, permit and other items stolen; one in the 3100 block of Ocean Avenue involved an open garage.

Two catalytic converters and a tailgate were stolen in three separate incidents that happened in the 1400 block of 12th Street, the 1400 block of Parkview Avenue, and 1700 block of Marine Avenue, respectively.

A package theft was reported in the 1600 block of 19th Street and a pickpocketing was reported in the 1800 block of Manhattan Beach Boulevard.

There were six instances of shoplifting listed in the report in the following areas

  • 2700 block of North Sepulveda Boulevard
  • 1500 block of Rosecrans Avenue
  • 1700 block of Rosecrans Avenue
  • 1800 block of Rosecrans Avenue [all three Rosecrans Avenue shoplifting incidents took place on February 10].

And on Valentine's Day, Sunday, Feb. 14, two instances of shoplifting happened in the 1700 and 1800 blocks of Rosecrans Avenue.

Two assault reports were taken for different days. One was in the 500 block of 35th Street. The other took place in the 3500 block of Alma Avenue.

The Manhattan Beach Police Department reports these "Preliminary Crime Statistics," which are "subject to change and correction" as a way "to give citizens a good ballpark of crime in Manhattan Beach, but they are not official numbers."
