Small Plane Crash In California Kills At Least 2 In Residential Area
Authorities confirmed multiple fatalities in crash

HAWTHORNE, CA -- A small plane has crashed Friday into a townhome complex in Hawthorne and there are two fatalities, officials said.
The crash was reported at 5:11 p.m. in the 4600 block of Broadway, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Two people were confirmed dead at the scene, but no one on the ground was injured, a dispatcher said.

"The aircraft, a Grumman American AA-1B, crashed into a building 2 miles west of Hawthorne under unknown circumstances," Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Allen Kenitzer said.

The five people who live in the residence were not home at the time of the crash, authorities said. The fire department was cleaning up the scene and will turn the incident over to the FAA.
Two people were in the plane at the time of the crash. Both the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the accident, he said.
In March, Erin Storm, a former "The Bachelor" contestant, was killed in an ultralight plane crash about a quarter-mile off the west end of the airport. She was the only person in the plane.
