Here's A Tip To Go Green: The holidays are fast approaching, which means big family meals and a lot of present wrapping. But the holidays don't have to create excess waste. Here are some holiday sustainability tips from Dan Jacobson, from the nonprofit group Environment California:

  • When you go shopping for presents, bring your own bags. We are all in the habit of doing it for the groceries, but you should do it for your gift-giving bags as well.
  • Speaking of gifts, wrap them in recycled paper products. In addition to recycled paper products, you can also use cloth or newspaper.
  • The best gift of all is the gift of time, so instead of buying something for someone, spend time with them at a local restaurant or coffee shop.
  • Turn off the holiday lights at 10 p.m. If it's hard to remember, grab a timer for the lights so they automatically shut off.
