Bin Laden Dead, Lakers Play and Candidates Forum
President Obama announced to the nation last night that most wanted terrorist Osama bin Laden was killed by U.S. forces during a raid in Pakistan.

Today is May 2. It is the 122nd day of the year. We are under a waning crescent moon. Sunset will occur about 7:39 p.m. Here are five things to know:
1. Osama bin Laden is dead. President Obama announced last night that the world's most wanted terrorist and Sept. 11 plotter was shot and killed in Pakistan in a raid by U.S. forces. You can read President Obama's speech right here.
2. Playa del Rey resident Phil Jackson and the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Lakers host the Dallas Mavericks in the first game of the Western Conference semifinals tonight at Staples Center. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
3. The League of Women Voters is holding a candidate's forum tonight for the May 17 special election to fill the vacant seat in the 36th Congressional District. It's at Dave's Garage at Pelican Products, 23215 Early Ave., Torrance. It runs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

5. The National Weather Service forecast for this afternoon calls for sunny skies with a high near 81 degrees with clear skies tonight and a low around 61 degrees. It should be sunny Tuesday with a high near 76 degrees.
