Body Of Missing Person Found In Marina Del Rey

The man was reported missing on Oct. 22 and was found using sonar rescue equipment 34 hours after the report.

MARINA DEL REY, CA — Los Angeles County Lifeguards recovered the body of a man reported missing in Marina Del Rey from the bottom of the harbor 34 hours after he was reported missing, officials said.

According to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department, the family of Richard Tsai, 42, reported him missing at 11 a.m. on Oct. 22 after he didn't come home from a gathering with his friends on a Yacht in the marina.

Officer Raquel Utley with the Sheriff's Department said they don't suspect foul play in the case, but they cannot rule out that Tsai's death was not an accident.

Sonar and dive teams from LACo Lifeguards and the Sheriff's Department worked together to recover the body Lifeguard Captain AJ Lester said. Lester said teams utilized new technology called the EMILY and an AquaEye handheld sonar device to locate Tsai's body at the bottom of the harbor.

These tools primarily help to locate people quickly in case of rescue, Lester said.
