MARINA DEL REY, CA — Thousands of Los Angeles County residents will take to the beaches and inland communities Sept. 17 to take part in the "largest garbage collection event ever," Coastal Cleanup Day held by Heal the Bay.

The county-wide event will occur in more than 35 coastal, underwater, inland and Los Angeles River sites including Mother's Beach, Admiralty Way in Marina Del Rey and Playa Del Rey Beach.

“This year’s cleanup is more than an opportunity to keep our waterways and communities clean, it’s an invitation to build solidarity with our waterways, and with each other” Tracy Quinn, CEO of Heal the Bay, said “Many coastal Indigenous Peoples and Native Nations, including the Tongva, Chumash, Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians, and Kizh Nation tribes, as well as BIPOC residents, cherish histories and cultural understandings that celebrate the pure essence of water, and teach us how to live in harmony with it.”

In addition to the cleanup, participants are invited to enjoy activities like a live performance by Sacred Paces Institute for Indigenous Peoples at the Santa Monica Pier and an environmental advocacy talk show called Trash Talk LIVE broadcasted at the Heal the Bay Aquarium.
