Marina Del Rey Hotel Unveils New Look & Restaurant Refresh

MARINA DEL REY, CA — The Marina del Rey Hotel, a community fixture for nearly six decades, has freshened its look — infusing a bright, preppy, maritime-themed vibe throughout the property's SALT Restaurant, bar and the marina-facing pool.

The Costa Mesa-based design firm Common Standard led the redesign and decor updates, with renovations completed last month, according to company officials.

“Marina del Rey Hotel is such a special place, and we were honored to help revamp the property,” said Amanda Malson, the design firm's founder.

Opened in 1964 on Bali Way, the Marina del Rey Hotel was the first public hotel built in the marina south of Venice, and since then has served as a West Side go-to destination for local yacht clubs, fashion shows, weddings and events. In 2013, a $20 million renovation included an update of the 164 guest rooms, the company said.

The current reno — that took inspiration from the hotel's waterfront setting — included a redesign of SALT’s indoor-outdoor dining spaces, furniture and décor upgrades to the pool deck, and a makeover of the bar area, now open as Del Rey Lounge, management said.

“Marina del Rey Hotel has been a community staple for more than half a century," said Adam Marquis, president of Pacifica Hotels, Marina del Rey Hotel’s parent company. "Going into this renovation project, we sought to reimagine the restaurant, bar and pool in a way that paid homage to the ambiance of the marina while recreating the spaces with elements that enhance visitors’ experiences.”

With the renovations completed, hotel officials said they plan to host such events for locals and hotel guests as tastings, seasonal celebrations and musical performances.
