• Hercules man arrested in New Year's Day attack on elderly mother, police say (cbsnews.com) — A Hercules man was arrested on suspicion of brutally assaulting his elderly mother on New Year’s Day and was ultimately booked into the Martinez Detention Facility. Police say the woman, found distraught and bloodied in a vehicle, suffered head injuries and was hospitalized, while officers had to detain the suspect after he barricaded himself and tried to flee.
