SWAT Standoff Ends In Surrender Of Barricaded Suspect

The standoff began Tuesday morning when Antioch police responded to a family dispute in the 50 block of East 6th Street, where they found a 25-year-old woman with non-life-threatening injuries. She was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The man suspected of injuring her, Matthew Britt, 31, barricaded himself inside the home and refused to come out, the Antioch Police Department said in a statement.

Police shut down the area, warning residents to avoid the area as officers investigated and called in the Antioch Police Department SWAT and Crisis Negotiations teams.

Britt had been arrested in June for assault with a firearm, according to the Antioch Police Department.

After several hours of negotiations, Britt ultimately surrendered without incident.

Britt was uninjured and was evaluated by medical personnel at his request. He was arrested and taken to the Contra Costa County Jail on suspicion of felony assault.
