Child Shot In Afternoon Gunfight
Police and paramedics were called to the scene of an afternoon shooting that injured a young girl.
ANTIOCH, CA —An 11-year-old girl was shot in the head by a stray bullet on Monday afternoon outside an Antioch apartment complex.
The shooting happened in the parking lot of the Delta View Apartments at 3915 Delta Fair Boulevard.
The girl was sitting in passenger seat of the car with her family at about 12:39 p.m. when she was hit by a bullet fired nearby.

According to Antioch police, the family does not appear to have been the intended targets.
After the shooting, the parents fled to safety at a shopping center nearby, police said. Their vehicle had gunshot holes through the windows, according to reports.

Lt. Bill Whitaker told ABC7 News the family was driving to a shopping center from the complex when somebody shot the girl in the head. "The vehicle was moving when it was shot - was driving out. The family was going to the store and the round went through the back of the car, through the headrest and she was sitting in the front passenger seat," Whitaker said.
Police found the car and the girl in the shopping center.
The girl was transported to Children’s Hospital Oakland, where she was listed in critical but stable condition.
