Cooking Mishap Ignites San Rafael Structure Fire
Crews at 12:23 p.m. Thursday responding to the report of a fire at 53 Woodland Ave. found a ground-floor unit in flames, authorities said.
SAN RAFAEL, CA — A cooking-related fire damaged an apartment building in San Rafael on Thursday afternoon, city fire officials said.
Crews responded at 12:23 p.m. to a fire reported at an apartment at 53 Woodland Ave. and found a ground-floor unit in flames, according to the San Rafael Fire Department.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control in about 20 minutes, containing it to the unit where it started although the apartment directly above it sustained significant smoke damage, fire officials said.

No one was injured in the fire, which displaced 18 people who are being helped by the American Red Cross.
Fire officials said the fire was caused by a cooking mishap and residents were unsuccessful in putting it out with a fire extinguisher.
