Fisherman Dies Despite Bystanders' Attempts To Save Him: Marin Sheriff

MILL VALLEY, CA — A 78-year-old fisherman died Tuesday at Rodeo Beach, according to authorities.

Ho Yu Wong of Oakland was fishing for mussels on the shoreline of the beach in the Marin Headlands when he fell into the surf and was briefly pulled out into the water around 3:30 p.m. before being retrieved by surfers and bystanders, according to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.

The witnesses provided first aid until emergency crews arrived, but Wong was determined to be in cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead shortly after 4:15 p.m., authorities said.
