Kiddo Takes Mill Valley Out to the Ballgame

Benefit on May 4 features the Mill Valley Middle School Chamber Chorus singing the national anthem before the San Francisco Giants take on the Milwaukee Brewers

The choral group’s 8th graders are singing the national anthem at the San Francisco Giants game against the Milwaukee Brewers at AT&T Park this Friday, May 4, as part of the Giants' annual Kiddo! Night benefit. More than 600 local residents have bought tickets to the game to date but Kiddo has plenty more available, according to Trisha Garlock, the nonprofit educational foundation's executive director.

“This is a wonderful event each year for the Mill Valley community and Kiddo,” Garlock said. “We want to thank the Giants for this great opportunity and thank our contributors for their commitment to the kids of Mill Valley.”

The Giants donate $8 of each $25 ticket sold through Kiddo to help fund the arts, technology, classroom aides and physical education for 3,000 kindergarten through 8th grade students in Mill Valley’s public schools. Kiddo has agreed to raise its annual commitment to the school district to , Garlock said.

The centerpiece of the night is the chorus taking the field before the game to belt the national anthem in Nicholson, an avid Giants fan, has turned into an annual event.

“The feeling of being on the field in front of all those people never gets old for me and just seeing the faces of the students is incredible,” Nicholson said.

In addition to the game and the anthem, Giants fans also have the lure of warm and free-to-text hands at the game regardless of the weather, as the first 20,000 fans will receive orange “texting gloves” as part a Giants’ promotional giveaway.
