Last Weekend for Free Shakespeare in Old Mill Park
Curtain Theatre's Twelfth Night Delivers Laughs, Original Music and Great Choreography
Curtain Theatre returned to the stage in grand form this summer with free performances of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, delivering belly laughs, original music, fine choreography and swordfighting and beautiful sets amongst the redwoods of Old Mill Park, Mill Valley. Directed by Michele Delattre, the play is set in eastern Canada in the late 19th century. Think Nova Scotia--crashing waves, sturdy homes with widow’s walks and country dances to the ring of fiddle tunes. Don Clark leads the original live four piece music ensemble and adds occasional sound effects to complement the antics on-stage, sharing music creation and performance with Curtain Theatre veteran Hal Hughes.
Steve Coleman's once again transformed the stage and provided plenty of places for entrances, hiding places, and exits. The audience quickly welcomed the relaxed environment of Old Mill Park's amphitheatre and enjoyed a rich production including dance and swordfighting, gender-switching, broken hearts, misplaced love and cross-gartered yellow stockings.
Final two performances are 2pm, Sunday, September 5th and Monday Labor Day September 6. Performances are free, seating is open, and Covid regulations are observed.
