Lippy Lands Valentine's Day Google Doodle

Homestead Valley resident Michael “Lippy” Lipman landed one of the most prominent spots on the Internet for animators this week, creating the “Google Doodle” of the day for Google’s home page for Valentine’s Day.

The 70-second animation, accompanied by Tony Bennett crooning the bluesy Hank Williams tune “Cold, Cold Heart,” shows a boy struggling with a variety of gestures to win over the heart of a jump rope-loving girl, but eventually doing so by simply joining her.

The animation concludes with images of six cartoon couples, including an astronaut and an alien, milk and cookies, two men in tuxedoes at their wedding and a dog and cat.

 “It’s been a whirlwind four weeks of late nights and no sleep,” said Lipman, who was referred to Google by Willie Real, a San Francisco illustrator who conceived the Valentine's Day project.
