Marin Attempted Robbery Suspect Found Hiding In Dumpster: Cops

None of the victims involved in the case were injured, police said.

SAN RAFAEL, CA — A knife-wielding Marin attempted robbery suspect was arrested Thursday after officers found him hiding in a dumpster, the San Rafael Police Department said.

Milton Garcia Colomo, 37 of San Rafael, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, attempted robbery and an outstanding warrant among other charges, police said.

Colomo’s arrest followed multiple reports of him acting erratically, according to police.

Initially, officers at around 9:45 a.m. responded to the 3200 block of Kerner Boulevard after witnesses reported seeing a man later identified as Colomo hitting and kicking a bus, police said.

While officers were responding, the SRPD sent out additional officers after the agency received additional calls about Colomo, police said.

A witness reported that Colomo approached a victim in the 200 block of Windward Way demanding money and pulled a knife when the victim refused, police said.

The victim was able to get away without being harmed.

Just before officers arrived on the scene, it was reported that Colomo had approached another person and began physically fighting, police said.

Residents pulled Colomo from the victim, according to police.

Colomo ran from the scene when officers arrived, but was arrested after the officers established a perimeter.

“Within just a few minutes, Colomo was surrounded by officers in a parking lot on the south end of Windward Way,” police said.

“Colomo attempted to elude officers by hiding in an empty dumpster paddock but was quickly spotted. Officers confronted Colomo using de-escalation techniques and took him into custody without incident.”

Colomo, who has an arrest history in San Rafael and is on Marin County Probation for felony robbery and vehicle theft, also had an outstanding felony arrest warrant for robbery police said.

None of the victims involved in the case suffered physical injuries, police said.

Police said the investigation of this case is ongoing and will be forwarded to the Marin County District Attorney’s Office.
