Marin Community Mulls $60M Underground Power Project

The project would upgrade electrical infrastructure at 698 properties.

MARIN COUNTY, CA — The Sausalito City Council will consider pursuing an underground power line project that would upgrade electrical infrastructure to 698 properties in the central part of the city.

On Tuesday, councilmembers will consider adopting a plan from PG&E that would replace overhead lines and provide a higher-capacity electrical system in neighborhoods between Glenn Drive and Marin Avenue.

The project will likely require a significant amount of additional funds in property taxes in order to complete the project, according to the agenda item for Tuesday's meeting.

Public Works Director Kevin McGowan will give a presentation at the meeting, and plans to ask council members to consider three options -- submit an application to underground all properties in five designated areas, submit an application for one as a pilot project, or not submit an application at all.
