MILL VALLEY, CA — It’s a wrap! The Mill Valley Film Festival (MVFF), presented by the California Film Institute, has come and gone from the San Francisco Bay Area, capping another fantastic edition of amazing films and exemplary programming, replete with its famous intimate urban setting and international ambience.
Due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, movie stars were not able to attend the events to promote their films. Consequently, this year’s MVFF had to pivot back to its roots as a director-oriented film fest.
The 46th edition kicked off this year’s festivities on Oct. 5, boasting a stellar lineup of 147 films from 41 countries, including 56 premieres, 85 features and 62 shorts. The opening night film was the boxing drama “Day of the Fight,” Jack Huston’s feature directorial debut, starring Michael Pitt as a once-celebrated pugilist searching for redemption.
