Here’s When Mill Valley Traffic Will Be Impacted By An Evacuation Drill

The Mill Valley Police Department is advising residents to plan ahead to avoid heavy traffic.

MILL VALLEY, CA — An evacuation drill Saturday in the City of Mill Valley will affect traffic in multiple locations, police said.

The evacuation drill is intended to test and improve community preparedness as well as familiarize residents with evacuation routes and procedures. Those who want to participate can register here.

The drill will begin at 8:45 a.m. Saturday with participants lining up in their cars on Miller Avenue at the Camino Alto intersection. Emergency personnel will instruct participants and lead them along designated evacuation routes.

After the drill, there will be a Public Safety Fair at the Mill Valley Middle School parking lot where there will be emergency preparedness resources, expert guidance, and hands-on activities.

The Mill Valley Police Department has advised traffic will be impacted in these locations:

  • 400 Block of Sycamore Avenue & Mill Valley Middle School – Will be CLOSED to all traffic between Camino Alto and Bay Front Park from 6:00am – 9:30am.
  • Miller Avenue – Will be CLOSED to outbound traffic between Millwood and Camino Alto from 8:30am – 9:30am.
  • Camino Alto – Will be CLOSED to all lanes of traffic between E. Blithedale Ave and Miller Ave from 8:30am – 9:30am
  • E. Blithedale – Will be OPEN, with lane reduction, heading out of town from 8:30am – 10:00am.

Police said there will also be heavy traffic impacts from 8:30-9:30 a.m. in the Homestead Valley and Edgewood neighborhoods on streets such as Reed, Evergreen, Montford, Molino, and Ethel.

The MVPD is advising anyone with obligations such as appointments, airline departures and pick-ups, and children’s sporting events to plan ahead.

"Wildfires don’t wait, and neither should we. The April 26 evacuation drill is a chance for every Mill Valley resident, no matter where they live, to be proactive and to get comfortable with taking action. Wildfire safety starts with each of us — because when we prepare together, we make our whole community stronger and safer," said Mayor Stephen Burke.

To prepare for the drill, the City of Mill Valley recommends each family member sign up for Alert Marin, and each family should create an emergency plan, and make sure each family member has an emergency go bag.
