Student In Custody, Gun Recovered At Milpitas H.S.

The school was locked down twice. Rumors of active shooter and second person with firearm on campus were not true, police said.

MILPITAS, CA -- A lockdown at Milpitas High School was lifted for the second time Thursday after police detained one student with a firearm and then subsequently investigated a rumor of a second armed student on campus.

Around 1 p.m., police said that a student had been detained, a gun had been recovered and the initial lockdown had been lifted.

The school at 1285 Escuela Parkway was placed back on lockdown because of a rumor of another armed student on campus, according to an online statement posted by police around 2:45 p.m.

By 3:03 p.m., police said they had contacted a student off campus, the lockdown was lifted and students were released from school.

Police said earlier today that any rumors circulating about an active shooter were unfounded.

A student who allegedly brought a firearm to the campus of Milpitas High School has been taken into custody and the weapon has been recovered, police said this afternoon.

The school at 1285 Escuela Parkway was placed on lockdown as a precaution, according to an online statement posted by police around 1 p.m.

Police said any rumors circulating about an active shooter on campus were unfounded, and the lockdown has since been lifted.

School officials were not immediately available to discuss the incident.

A student with a gun today led to a campus lockdown, which was since lifted, at Milpitas High School, according to police.

"The student was quickly taken into custody and the gun was recovered," the Milpitas Police Department said, adding that rumors of an “active shooter” were untrue. "The school was placed on lockdown out of an abundance of caution."

Guns on campus were also reported recently in Pleasanton and San Ramon.
