A man was pepper-sprayed during an attempted robbery Monday after two people in a vehicle called him over and demanded money, police said.
The man was at a residence in the 200 block of Melrose Avenue shortly before 2 a.m. Monday morning when a car pulled up and someone inside asked the man for directions. When he approached the car, the occupants demanded money from him and he replied that he didn't have any, according to Monrovia Police Lt. Jaime Alfaro.
