Town Council Meeting Highlights
The La Crescenta Post Office, a CVWD budget workshop and a new crosswalk topped Thursday's town council meeting agenda.
The Crescenta Valley Town Council gathered Thursday evening for its monthly meeting. Here are some of the talking points:
Glenwood Avenue and Foothill Boulevard
Councilmember Robbyn Battles re-emphasized a pair of petitions for adults and minors, respectively, to make the intersection either a lighted crosswalk or a four-way stop. Battles also shared a letter from the county telling the council that different options are still being explored for the crosswalk, and that more will be known next week.

"I don't want to wait," Battles said. "I don't want to wait for the county to maybe tell me 'no.' That's why we've got (the petitions). We need to let them know it's not safe."

The council discussed a letter that would urge the U.S. Postal Service to keep the station on Foothill Boulevard open. It was universally supported by the council, but some members asked Battles to shorten it, as well as add bullet points to make it easier to read.
Other notes:
- Robin Goldsworthy, publisher of the Crescenta Valley Weekly, shared the impact of Prom Plus, which drew 315 youngsters as well as a higher number of walk-ins than in the past.
- Matt Zakarian of the Glendale Police Department mentioned a forum that will discuss "sex, drugs and social networking" at Verdugo Hills Hospital on June 21. Sgt. Tom Lorenz of the police department will be heading the forum.
- The Crescenta Valley Water District will be having a budget workshop, also on June 21. Dennis Erdman, the district's general manager, urged that money should be spent to maintain the area's infrastructure. He noted that many of the water pipes are still old, and that the money borrowed for maintenance and upgrades in 2007 is spent. Among the concepts being discussed to generate more money are possible, "modest" rate increases and a pay-as-you-go system.
Councilmember Harry Leon warned that the Crescenta Valley's senior population should be considered when rates are discussed, and how hard it could be for them to absorb another one.
