Andrea Temkin Named CSMA's Interim Executive Director

Three weeks after the Community School of Music and Arts announced that its executive director resigned, the school has named an interim leader.

Andrea Temkin, a veteran arts educator and former CSMA executive director, will temporarily take over the duties of Moy Eng who resigned on March 8 after two years as executive director. 

"I am extremely pleased to be able to step in during this transitional time," Temkin said in a press statement. "I have always felt that I never truly left the CSMA family!"

Temkin led the organization for eight years between 1994 and 2001 and will serve until a permanent executive director is hired. Since CSMA, Temkin has been the principal of AST Consulting Group and most recently served as the visual and performing arts manager at the Alameda County Office of Education.

Eng, whose official last day was Sunday, led the school into the highest year ever in private lesson enrollment and revenue in its 45-year history, according to a CSMA spokesperson.

Founded in 1968 and located at 230 San Antonio Circle in Mountain View, CSMA is Northern California’s largest non-profit provider of arts education programs  with a $4.9 million budget and 160-member staff and faculty.

"It is a bittersweet moment to depart CSMA at this pinnacle, especially when the start of my tenure was marked by a personal tragedy," Eng said. "The impacts of that event were profound and created the impetus to evaluate and recalibrate my professional and personal life."

Temkin started in this interim role on April 1.
