Caltrain Clips Car on Rengstorff Avenue Tracks

The back of a vehicle was swiped on the at-grade crossing in Mountain View. No injuries reported yet, police say.

A mother and daughter got a big scare this Friday afternoon in Mountain View as a Caltrain clipped the back of the vehicle they drove.

The southbound Caltrain No. 366 struck the car around 5:20 p.m. according to Caltrain officials at the at-grade crossing on Rengstorff Avenue and Central Expressway. The car was unoccupied when the train hit it, and no one was
injured either in the car or on the train, Dunn said.

Caltrain will experience delays on the tracks according to the police, likely traveling 30 mph across Rengstorff Avenue. Trains are currently single-tracking on northbound tracks.

Traffic has been closed across the tracks in both north- and south-bound directions and street sweepers will soon arrive to remove the shattered glass strewn across the intersection. Traffic will resume normally after that, according to police. There's are no delays on Central Express.

Pedestrians and bicyclists can cross provided a train isn't crossing.
