Caltrain Fatally Strikes Man on Wheelchair in San Mateo
Southbound train No. 264 train halted at 5th Avenue.

A Caltrain fatally struck an adult man on the train tracks in San Mateo Thursday at 4:50 p.m., halting southbound train service and temporarily northbound service.
Southbound train No. 264 hit the man in the electric wheelchair after he went around the lowered gates onto the train tracks, according to a Caltrain official. The train was stopped on the tracks at 5th Avenu, but at 6 p.m. was moved north to the San Mateo station, where the passengers were able to get off the train. Emergency officials are at the scene of the incident.
Caltrain Spokesperson Christine Dunn said, "Northbound train No. 365, which is currently stopped at the Hillsdale station, will turn and go south, stopping at all stations. This will provide some limited southbound train service until regular service can resume."
Southbound train No. 266, currently stopped at the Millbrae station, will turn and go north, stopping at all stations.

At 5:40 p.m. the northbound track opened for trains operating at reduced speed. North and southbound trains will operate on the northbound tracks.
Train 264, a limited-stop train, left San Francisco at 4:19 p.m. and had stopped at the San Mateo station at 4:42 p.m. The next scheduled stop was Hillsdale at 4:47 p.m.
