Caltrain Fatally Strikes Pedestrian At Sunnyvale Station

BREAKING: The station was expected to be closed for at least three hours, Caltrain said Friday morning.

SUNNYVALE, CA — A Caltrain fatally struck a man in Sunnyvale Friday morning, officials said. Trains would not be stopping at Sunnyvale as a result and a bus bridge was set up to accommodate passengers.

The pedestrian was struck at 8:21 a.m. at the Sunnyvale Caltrain station, which was expected to be closed for about three hours, Caltrain reported.

As of 12:45 p.m., the station's southbound platform remains closed to passengers, but the northbound platform was reopened.

The train involved in the incident was southbound (SB) 218, the agency reported around 8:30 a.m. Friday on Twitter.

The victim's identity had not been released by the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office early Friday afternoon.

At the time of the fatal collision, there were roughly 60 passengers onboard -- none of whom were injured.

Trains were single-tracking through the area, but not stopping at the station.

Delays of 30 to 40 minutes were reported.
