City Appoints New Director of Community Sevices Department

J.P. de la Montaigne starts on July 22, 2012 and replaces the city's long‐serving prior director, David Muela who retired in December of 2011.

For residents who enjoy the fun recreational events and spaces in Mountain View, Friday the city announced it has a new director of fun.

Mountain View City Manager Dan Rich announced Friday that J.P. de la Montaigne has been appoint the new Community Services Director.

"JP’s extensive experience, which includes 28 years as community services director in Peoria, AZ, has given him a tremendous range of skills  that  will  benefit the department and the community," said Rich in a written statement. "I am confident that JP will work collaboratively with all of the staff to build upon  our already outstanding programs and facilities, and take the Community Services Department to even greater achievements."

Montaigne replaces the city’s long‐serving prior director, David Muela who retired in December of 2011. According to Rich, Montaigne's appointment took place after after an internal promotional recruitment effort that included outside evaluators.

Included among Montaigne's previous responsibilities was management of the Peoria  Sports  Complex--the Spring training home of the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres. He holds a Bachelor's of Science degree from Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona.

The new director will be responsible for the Center for the Performing  Arts,  Shoreline  at  Mountain  View, Forestry and  Roadway  Landscape, the cities 37 arks, recreation, and administration  divisions. It also oversees the Steven Creek Trail's maintenance. The department has a full-time staff  of 75.

Rich also announced that Regina Maurantonio will step up into a restructured
assistant role in the City Manager's office.

Montaigne first day will be Sunday, July  22,  2012.
