Commission to Review 193 Apt. Units to Replace San Antonio Inn

City Staff requests Environmental Planning Commission recommend City Council approves the project.

Take a snapshot now because the area around San Antonio Road between El Camino Real and California Street will look very different in a few years.

In addition to the proposed phase two of the , which could have the City of Mountain View's tallest office building at 167 feet, the Environmental Planning Commission will consider on Wednesday whether to recommend approval of a General Plan Amendment and rezoning for two 193-unit apartment buildings off San Antonio Road to City Council.

The 2.91 acre project—which would replace the San Antonio Inn, Hong Kong Restaurant both located at 2560 and 2565 W. El Camino Real—would redevelop the site into two four-story apartment buildings. One and two-bedrooom market value units, a leasing office and related ammenities would be included.

The developer Urban Housing Group has applied for permission to increase the density that is, floor area ratio (FAR), from 0.35 FAR the current 43-units per acre to approximately 60-70 units per acre or 1.85-2.1 (FAR). The higher FAR would not be allowed under the 1992 General Plan, however it has been defined in the Draft 2030 General Plan under the mixed-use corridor designation. This type of FAR would permit a building height maximum of four to five stories.

Under the "model parking standard" the project would be required to have 267 parking spots for residents and their guests.

City staff finds that the environmental impact review would not result in "significant unavoidable impacts," and recommends that the EPC approve.

After Wednesday, May 30, 7 p.m. EPC meeting at City Hall, the project will next be considered by the Zoning Administrator on Wednesday, June 6. It could potentially go before City Council for final approval on June 26.
