Police Blotter: Bike Stolen from Google, $5K in Missing Jewelry, Gas Siphoned from U-Haul—Again

The Mountain View Police Department received and responded to various reports of crime March 18-19. Here's a sampling.

Grand Theft

  • The Mountain View Police Department received a report over the Internet that a bike—a GT-5 with white handle bars, a white seat and a rail to hold a backpack—worth approximately $1,000 was stolen from 1945 Charleston Rd.—a building on the Google campus. The incident occurred sometime between March 7 and March 15, but the owner did not report it until March 18. According to the report, the bike had been locked to a bike rack and upon the alleged victim entering the building he found that his bike lock had been tossed to the ground. In place of his bike, he found another bike. The victim told police that he didn't remember the last time he rode the bike.

Grand Theft

  • The MVPD responded to a call on March 19 of $5,000 worth of jewelry stolen from a home on 1500 Todd St. sometime between Feb. 26 and Feb. 28. According to the report, the alleged victim believes her former roommate—who she had evicted for unpaid rent in December 2012—came back and stole several items of gold and sterling silver jewelry from her bedroom. There was no forced entry.

  • The MVPD responded to a call on the morning of March 18 at the U-Haul at 62 W. El Camino Real for the alleged theft of approximately 100 gallons of gas from the trucks. According to the proprietor, the theft occurred sometime between March 17 at 5:15 p.m. and March 18 at 6:30 a.m. No suspect information is available and police are reviewing video surveillance. Previous siphoning of gas at this location resulted in a two-alarm fire in September 2011.

Petty Theft

  • The MVPD received an Internet report of a stolen vehicular registration sticker from a car on Continental Circle on March 19. The sticker may have been taken sometime between Oct. 15 and March 15.

  • The MVPD received an Internet report of a stolen purse at St. Stephen's Green on March 19. According to the alleged victim, when she was at the bar on March 18, she had set her purse down on the floor and noticed it missing around 1:45 a.m. The security guard found some of the victim's property inside the men's bathroom. Some of the stolen items included a Samsung Galaxy S-5 mobile phone worth about $300; the victim's passport; $70 in cash and a set of house keys. The only item recovered was the ATM card.

Petty Theft

  • The MVPD received an Internet report on March 18 of a stolen orange bike from the 2000 block of San Ramon Avenue. The bike may have been stolen sometime between March 11 and March 13. According the alleged victim, the bike worth $200 had been unlocked and was in the common area of the apartment complex.
