Six Potential City Council Candidates

The City Clerk's office has received half-a-dozen applications since the nomination period began on July 16.

Like the weather, the political season in Mountain View has begun to heat up.

Since the nomination period began on July 16, six candidates have files applications that demonstrate their intent to run for the four seats that open up this year. City Councilmembers Laura Macias and Tom Means have both served the maximum two-terms and term out in January 2013.

Since their first term expires, Incumbents and Vice Mayor John Ink have filed nominations papers to seek a second term.

Both candidates in 2008, the owner of the John McAllister and tech company executive Chris Clark have filed nomination papers.

Newcomers to the political scene, long-time resident and now retired tech company executive Margaret Capriles and information technology professional have both decided to throw their hats in the ring.

All six candidates have until Aug. 15 to gather between 20 to 30 signatures of eligibale Mountain View voters who nominate them. After the signatures have been turned into the City Clerk's Office, the Clerk sends them to the Santa Clara County Board of Registers for verification of the signatures.
