SOUTHWEST RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — A biker was badly injured and had to be hospitalized due to a crash that took place on a major Lake Elsinore thoroughfare, sheriff's deputies said Thursday.

Paramedics and law enforcement were called around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday to the intersection of Railroad Canyon Road and Tassel Way in response to a crash, according to Riverside County Sheriff's Sgt. Steve Jimenez.

They found a motorcyclist traveling west on Railroad Canyon had collided with a Honda Civic making a left turn from Tassel Way, and the injured biker was taken to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar.

Sheriff's deputies did not reveal the motorcyclist's condition, but Lake Elsinore Mayor Steve Manos described the crash as involving a "possible fatality" in a Facebook post on Wednesday, shortly after it occurred.

Investigators were looking into the cause of the crash on Thursday, and it's unknown whether drugs or alcohol were factors, Jimenez said.
