Gas Leak Prompts Street Closures Near Menifee Construction Site

Officials determined a four-inch diameter line was damaged.

MENIFEE, CA — A gas main was breached Monday at a construction site in Menifee, prompting street closures but no evacuations.

The puncture was reported at 12:33 p.m. in the area of Encanto Drive and McLaughlin Road, just east of Interstate 215, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said several engine crews were sent to the location and found a four-inch diameter line damaged from digging or other activity at the site.

Firefighters immediately requested that Menifee police officers close the intersections of Encanto and McLaughlin and Encanto and Rouse Road to traffic for public safety.

The area is under construction, and no residences are in the immediate vicinity, according to officials.

SoCal Gas Co. technicians reached the location shortly after 1 p.m. and initiated repairs.
