Live Power Line Crashes Down On Car In SWR Wreck

Southern California Edison crews were called to the scene to de-energize the line before the trapped person could be freed.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — Firefighters freed a person from the wreckage of a car crash in Lake Elsinore Tuesday morning after a power pole was knocked down, bringing a live power line down in the process.

The Riverside County Fire Department reports the wreck happened at 7:53 a.m. along Rosetta Canyon Drive, at Highway 74.

When fire crews got to the scene, they discovered a vehicle had crashed into a light pole and knocked down a power line. One person was found trapped inside the vehicle and a live power line was lying across it, the fire department said.

"Southern California Edison responded to de-energize the line," the fire department said. "Once the power line was de-energized, [firefighters] were able to extricate the victim."

The person, who was not identified, was hospitalized with moderate injuries.
