Menifee Standoff: Man Found Dead In Home

UPDATED: Sheriff's officials were at the house for several hours Wednesday.

UPDATE 8:45 P.M.: Sheriff's officials say they went inside the home and found an adult man dead. Law enforcement remained at the scene.

"The investigation remains on-going and no additional information will be released at this time," the sheriff's department said.

UPDATE 6:15 P.M.: Police now say that they believe an assault occurred at the residence where they are currently in a standoff situation with a man.

"The male (suspect) is believed to be armed and is still refusing to comply and exit the residence," police said. "This is still an active scene. "

UPDATE 5 P.M.: Sheriff's officials say a man remains holed up inside a Menifee home, but say there is no threat to public safety.

"Deputies, SWAT and additional resources still on scene attempting to make contact with the male inside the residence.," the agency said on Twitter. "Please stay out of the area as the situation is fluid and ongoing."

Riverside County sheriff's Deputy Robyn Flores says deputies were were first called to the house to investigate a complaint of "unknown trouble."

She told City News Service that the resident, whose name was not disclosed, refused to come outside and talk with the patrolmen.

No surrounding properties were evacuated, but access to the location was limited as a precaution.

"Although the subject is not complying, there is not an identifiable threat," Flores said late Wednesday afternoon. "We are investigating further, but we may clear the scene without taking the person into custody."

MENIFEE, CA — A large police presence in the Menifee area on Wednesday was prompted by an "uncooperative subject" holed up inside a home, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department reports. The scene is in the area of Middlebury Way and Sun City Boulevard.

According to sheriff's officials deputies are negotiating with the person.

"Stay out of area," the agency said on Twitter. "No additional information at the is time."
