3 Thieves Interrupted, Arrested In American Canyon: Police

Two men were caught at U-Haul, while a third suspect was caught trespassing inside a business lot, according to police.

AMERICAN CANYON, CA β€” Police officers in American Canyon made three arrests Wednesday night related to thievery, the American Canyon Police Department said.

It started shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday when officers noticed a white Acura suspiciously backed into the U-Haul business on Paoli Loop Road. U-Haul had recent reports of catalytic converter theft, and officers were patrolling the area.

The license plates on the Acura belonged to a Chevy Trailblazer, and the Acura was reported stolen, police said.

Officers found two men hiding around a corner, not far from the stolen car.

It is alleged that one of the men, 31-year-old Benicia resident Matthew Brown, ran from officers when found. He decided to stop running when he heard ACPD's K-9 Brick barking in the distance, along with announcements that Brick would be deployed to get him if he did not stop, police said.

The second man tried to walk away in the opposite direction, police said, but was detained and identified as 45-year-old Vallejo resident Christopher Anderson. It is alleged that Anderson had Sawzall blades and a flashlight in his pockets, both of which are commonly used to steal catalytic converters.

A cordless Sawzall tool was also found on the back seat of the stolen Acura, police alleged.

Both Brown and Anderson were arrested on suspicion of possession of burglary tools and crimes related to the incident. Brown received additional charges on suspicion of running away from officers and for his felony warrant out of Sacramento County.

Trespassing Arrest

Just as things were settling down, only 20 minutes later and one mile away, officers received a report of someone trespassing inside the closed, locked lot at Pick-n-Pull on state Highway 29.

After surrounding the business and with the help of a California Highway Patrol air unit and Napa County sheriff’s deputies, officers found 36-year-old Sonoma County probationer Corey Williams trespassing inside, police said.

It is alleged Williams was carrying a backpack full of mechanic tools.

Williams was arrested on suspicion of trespassing and for violation of his probation terms.

All three men were booked into the Napa County Department of Corrections.

Brown remained in custody Thursday without bail and Anderson was being held in lieu of $25,000 bail.

Williams was no longer in the custody of Napa County.
