Coroner Identifies Man Killed In Collision With Dump Truck

He was riding a three-wheeled motorcycle and died at the scene of the crash on Highway 128 in eastern Napa County.

NAPA COUNTY, CA — A man who died this week in a collision with a dump truck on state Highway 128 was identified by the Napa County Sheriff-Coroner's Office as Bobby Ray Patton, a 67-year-old man who lived in Winters.

The fatal crash happened around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday as Patton was riding a trike — a motorcycle with three wheels instead of two — on Highway 128 near Wragg Canyon Road in an eastern part of Napa County, authorities said.

The California Highway Patrol's initial investigation indicated Patton was traveling westbound on SR-128 when he approached a long, sweeping right-turn curve in the road. A dump truck was traveling eastbound on the same stretch and also taking the curve when Patton crossed over the double-yellow lines and struck the side of the truck, according to the CHP.

Patton was thrown from the trike and landed on the roadway, suffering fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead by the coroner at 4:07 p.m. Tuesday, the sheriff's office told Patch.

CHP said the dump truck was traveling approximately 45 mph, but it was not immediately determined how fast Patton was going.
