Coroner Identifies Man Struck, Killed On Silverado Trail

A Sonoma County sheriff's deputy stopped to render medical aid to the man but his injuries were too severe and he died at the scene.

NAPA VALLEY, CA — A man killed while standing outside his car early Saturday on Silverado Trail North has been identified by the Napa County Sheriff-Coroner's Office as Daniel Matos Guadarrama, 26, of Yountville.

Guadarrama's vehicle broke down early Saturday morning on Silverado Trail north of Oak Knoll Avenue. Around 4:10 a.m. as Guadarrama was moving about the roadway for unknown reasons, a woman in a silver Toyota RAV4 SUV was headed south on Silverado Trail at around 55 mph, when she suddenly noticed him on the east side of the roadway and was not able to avoid hitting him, the California Highway Patrol said.

Guadarrama suffered major injuries.

There was major front-end damage to the woman's car.

An off-duty Sonoma County sheriff's deputy who previously saw Guadarrama standing in a different location on the roadway returned to the scene and rendered medical aid to Guadarrama.

Despite the deputy's efforts, Guadarrama died at the scene.

Evidence and witness statements suggested the headlights of Guadarrama's car may have caused a visual impairment for southbound traffic on Silverado Trail, making it difficult for drivers to see Guadaramma in the roadway, the CHP said.

Guadarrama's sobriety was not known and was under further routine investigation, the CHP said.

There were no indications the woman driving the SUV was impaired, the CHP said.

The CHP Napa Area was continuing its investigation of the crash and asked anyone with helpful information to call 707-699-6300.
